Yesterday I visited the beautiful Shady Lane Cellars near Suttons Bay for an open house where they were showcasing their new outdoor event venue and wine tasting pavilion. The outside area was completed 3 weeks ago and is currently serving delicious wine in a suiting environment. The wonderful structure was designed by George Moutsatson of Organic Architecture & Interior Design (GeoCorp, Ltd. email link) and expresses the concept of Organic Architecture. George served in the Air Force, attended the University of Illinois where be became disgusted with the contemporary architectural mentality. Looking for a change he composed a lengthy letter to Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright as an application to the Taliesin Fellowship. George was accepted to the school but unfortunately Mr. Wright passed before he could attend. Schooled by the fellows of Mr. Wright, George learned the processes and theory behind Organic Architecture, exactly the difference he was looking for. The Taliesin Fellowship is now the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and continues to educate tomorrow’s architects. The landscaping was performed by Klaus Heinert of Gosling Czubak Engineering, and the construction was completed by Chris Richter of RCI.
If you are looking for an event space, this one is available for any & all private events. Contact Shady Lane Cellars at 231 947 8865 or visit their site for more information. If you a musician or other performer you might want to check in with the management, rumor has it they are looking for talent. If you are having an event, please invite me as the photographer as I am looking for any excuse to return to this lovely location.
Images below were taken in candid fashion during the open house, I am hoping to return some day soon for a photographic session that will show the true beauty of the facility.
