Scattered about Sleeping Bear Dunes you will find old farms and their structures. The United States Government used eminent domain to remove homesteaders and farmers from their properties to establish the park and since then land is being reclaimed by nature. This has caused some bitter tensions between the local population and the park, which you can experience for yourself if you visit when the houses are open as the dependents will visit and tour you around the home.
