Description
“Vestigial” by Joe Clark
Captured at Ludington State Park, Ludington, Mi on 4-19-2014
Nikon D800 1/400 second f./11 200 ISO
Big Sable point is located in the well known Ludington State Park. The lighthouse is occupied by a volunteer and open at times to the public. The lighthouse is accessed by the trail system of the park and a service road which you can hike a couple miles. The state park was built in the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Core, and was a CCC camp. Joe’s grandfather worked at this particular camp during the construction of the park.
This seawall was long since unused and has been a part of the erosion control around the lighthouse for some time. Recent high water levels (2016-2022) likely have caused this artifact of another era to become useful once again.
